So here I am.
In yet another attempt to garner some enthusiasm and sponsorship for the 2011 Virgin London Marathon I will be writing a blog that tracks my training, trials and tribulations up until the big day.
I ran for the first time in January this year and found it almost impossible to drag my stocky little legs more than a mile before they seized up like concrete and caused me to moan at Melissa for days! Gradually I built it up and on October 10th I completed the Royal Parks Half Marathon in a PB time of 1hr 51mins.
But now it gets serious. I am currently running 7 miles on Tuesday and Thursday mornings; 5 miles on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and a 12 miler on Saturday. The knees are holding up but it's early days yet. I am also trying to avoid losing my carefully cultivated biceps so between running and weights I will have to try and squeeze in a life and time to teach decent PE in Hackney!
Over the past 11 months I have faced many trials and tribulations (being attacked by swans and geese, sore knees, cracked heels, running through various piles of excrement). I hope you will join me over the next 6 months as I embark on this ridiculous journey and , if you feel so inclined, help sponsor me towards my £2000 target for Oxfam.
Yours in trainers
Mario
